GLOSSARY (IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER)
Acquiescence: the reluctant acceptance of something without protest.
Catacombs: an underground cemetery consisting of a subterranean gallery with recesses for tombs
Desaparecidos: a person who has disappeared, presumed killed by members of the armed services or the police.
"Dressed like the cops in Charlie Chaplin's The Kid": A silent film directed by Charlie Chaplin. The story is about the relationship between a child, and the man taking care of him, "the Tramp", played by Charlie Chaplin.
Hay alguien: There's Somebody in Spanish
Max Planck Institute: An independent association of German research institutes founded in 1911. It's main goal was supporting fundamental research in the natural life, social sciences, the arts, and humanities.
Metallic: (of sound) resembling that produced by metal objects striking each other; sharp and ringing.
Monoteros: The guerrilla group of people in Argentina who rose up against the Argentinian regime.
“Opportunity makes the thief”: Anyone would steal, given a chance to do so without being punished. Mr. Cooper thought of himself as a moral man. But opportunity makes a thief, and with the safe unguarded he had the opportunity to steal thousands of dollars undetected.
